Canadian Wall Mural

So sometime a couple months ago i decided i was going to make a photo flip book style mural, and ive finally finished it. It pretty much came aboot by me wanting some way to display all the good travel photos ive accumulated over the time ive spent travelling accross this great country. So this is part 1:the map. part 2 will be out....whenever i get it finished i suppose.

The Seeds We Sow

So, first step to growing organic vegetables is to sow our seeds. We've picked to grow two types of tomatoes- Gold nuggets and Graham's Goodkeeper- Lipstick peppers, chives, six different types of lettuce- endive, oakleaf, escarole, chicory, arugula, and chervil- and cinnamon basil.

Seeds planted on March 1st.
All of these seeds are local to Victoria, BC and are organically grown. That may not be important to you but when it comes to produce, or any other food i eat, i have a tendency to want to eat something that is from the region i live in and not something from across the border or even worse from another continent. Nothing against their product, but thats just it food for a lot of industries has become just that, a product. No care is put into it any more, and thats where my window farm comes in. Its all about the love for the vegetables i am going to eat. And its all a start for something much bigger.

*UPDATE*: March 4th, the lettuce has already sprouted

Grocery Bills Get A Little Cheaper Via Our Window Farm

Thanks to stumbleupon i ran across this, only having heard of it in the past i really never thought of it in a practical use here in my apartment. But "Window Farming" seems like a easy and great way to cut my grocery bill costs. Being mostly a vegetarian and sickened with the lack of good organic produce that are available in the supermarkets i feel that its not only a good idea to start one but a obligation to the food that ends up on my plate. It may seems like a daunting task but its really simple (with some D-I-Y experience). The real plus side of this is that you can download plans that have been tested, and made, and tinckered with for free online at http://www.windowfarms.org/. If you go the way i am you'll download the plans and make your own. It seems that doing it all myself will have more meaning to it all in the end when im eating fresh veg grown right here in my small apartment. And with the plans that you can download some of the items used are recycled so they will be free. The rest of it will be cheap from local hydroponics store and hardware stores. In total Ive spent so far $20 in seeds, but im keeping a rolling total.

However if you don't want to make your own you can always buy a kit that are also available on http://www.windowfarms.org/.

Look into it. You may be inspired to make your own, experiment, and find a new way of window farming and then share it with the community.

Something Everyone Should Do

I truly believe that everyone should travel across Canada at least once in their life. I've done it twice now, using different routes, and i can officially say it one of the best times in my life. The experiences you will have and the new places you will see will open your eyes to what this country has to offer. From the vast prairies to the high walls of the mountains. It's truly fabulous to see it all. Im going to post just a couple of pics from my first trip, just ones i still have on my computer cause i had to take most off because everyone knows on road trip ALOT of photos are taken, i think over 5000 were, im pretty sure thats the grand total. So here are a couple that are still on my computer, they're nothing special just snap shots but they can always remind me of how awesome it is to be on a road trip with friends. Best experience ever.

P.S. Once you see those mountains you'll know it was all worth while. And Banff, amazing city.

Its Been A While......

I think i should really think i should start this again. its been a while since my last post. The last one was aboot us just aboot to leave, but we've gone and been back and i've been back and stayed. But that's a whole year and a bit right there.

If i'm going to catch up everything quickly. My pal Greg and I spent a month and a bit living in that van traveling across Canada. We had a blast, met some good people and had a lot of good times.
(ill post some pics of that trip later)

After i got home i grew tired fast of the mountain-less-ness east so it slowly came to be that me and my girlfriend heather would move back out and live on the west coast for a little while. It's been 9 months now and its still just as good. Being able to wake up with the ocean minutes away and both the Canadian and American Rockies visible across the Juan De Fuca is awesome.

So now i live on the west coast perfect for and a man who lives the environment and a is a photographer . Heather also loves the outdoors so it works out well for the both of us.

Im going to try and keep this up to date.

Right on, talk to you later

The Start Of It All.

Yo, hey whats up. this is the first one of these thingy-ma-blogs. pretty much the only reason i started this page was to keep in contact with some of the people i never want to loose touch with. For that reason this exists, to keep people up to date with what im doing and hopefully what they are up to. That being said its also for a constant update on WHERE i am, meaning me and a few friends plan on a cross canada trip from belleville which is the launching point to British Columbia, one of the places i have always wanted to go. Surfing in BC and snow angels in Alaska, is there serious anything better to do with friends, i think not.

hopefully with all of these posts magnificent photos will be accompanying them to keep you interested enough to actually read a bit, who knows.
